Is Having a Personal Brand a Business Strategy?

Absolutely. Your personal brand is interchangeable with reputation. It is everything you’re known for to the general public. Today I will be discussing how your reputation, uniqueness, and the current social media landscape combine to offer us an opportunity that no other generation has had.

Let’s make this very clear from the get-go: your personal brand is your personal social media accounts. Whether it be Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, or TikTok; it is your personal, everyday social account. Everybody reading this has a following on at least one of these platforms. The idea is to shift your focus towards documenting your life endeavors and providing value to your friends and followers.

Doing this successfully looks like what Gary Vaynerchuk is doing right now. It is pushing a massive amount of content out into the world on various platforms using your authentic voice. If you don’t listen to anything else, listen to this: The internet smells BS a mile away; if you fake yourself, they will know.

Your personal brand is now a powerful extension to your company.

Now, why would you producing a plethora of content about your life, interests, and business ideas be beneficial to your company? Simply, because it tells a story. Your company brand is now synonymous with your face and your personal brand. As long as you aren’t human scum, this is an excellent thing to have.

Additionally, think about how much more approachable a human is than a brand. When someone is interested in collaborating with your company, they know who you are, what you’re about, what your strengths in the market are, and what your favorite sports team is. Odds are this person discovered your personal brand before they discovered your company page anyway. Your personal brand is now a powerful extension to your company.

Here’s the punchline: A personal brand is an advanced digital resume. It gives the full scope of your attitude, capabilities, and who you are as a person. As long as your intent remains pure, this documentation through your personal social accounts will benefit you beyond belief. In essence, we are trying to market ourselves in the purest form possible. It’s far more genuine, insightful, and valuable than a regular resume. And it lives on forever, too, only snowballing to network even more!

The opportunities that open up once you begin to lean into your inner voice and create authentic content are limitless. Work hard and expect nothing.
